Rachel Carson's Second Influence in American History- Carson risks it to get the biscut.

After everything that I have learned about Rachel Carson, another reason I believe she is the greatest American is because, she was truly confident in herself and knew she could do anything. Carson made a risky decision in what she wanted to major in biology. It was a great surprise to people at that time because women rarely chose Biology to study. During that time there were hardly any jobs for women scientists. However, Carson worked hard despite the odds and earned her master’s degree in Biology at John Hopkins. She then started to work at the University of Maryland, College Park as a member in the Zoology staff from 1931-1936 which was perfect for her because, of her love for animals and nature. Then she was able to persue both passions of her life throughout her career, in 1949-1952 Carson worked for the Fish and Wildlife Service as an aquatic biologist as the editor in chief. People said that there was no way Rachel would get a job in the biology area, she sure proved them wrong. All in all that is another reason why Rachel Carson is one of the greatest American because, she took a risk in her life by basically becoming the one of the first women to major and have a job in the biology research. This opened the field up for other women who would do the same kind of work."Carson,Rachel Louise." Student Resource Center Gold Document. Gale, 2003. Web. 25 Feb. 2010. Novick, Sheldon M.
