The Biography of Rachel Carson-There are no limits to succeced!


Rachel Carson was born May 27, 1907 in Springfield, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest child in the family, as a child she spent most of her time outdoors exploring nature. Rachel was very interested in nature even as a young child she always wondered how living creatures in the environment could be helped. The Carson family supported her goals in life, although many other people didn’t think that she had the ability be successful in her field of work. Carson’s parents were one of her main role models in her life because, they believed in their daughter instead of under estimating her talents. Rachel Carson’s parents were Robert Warden and Maria Frazier, they were a particularly gentle couple who encouraged in their daughter for her love of books and nature and a deep belief in sharing the Earth with all other living beings.
At a young age she became a published author and her ability in writing was obvious when her work was published in the St. Nicholas Magazine. As many thought that it is impossible to get a piece of writing published at such a young age which varied from 10-13, she believed she could be and do anything and had no limits in her life.
She received a scholarship to Pennsylvania College for Women. Rachel was also offered an internship at Woods Hole, Massachusetts and a full scholarship to John Hopkins. She then graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women in 1929 and received her master’s degree from John Hopkins University in 1932.
During the 1930’s at the time of the Great Depression, Carson took a civil service exam and became the first woman to be hired as a biologist by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, for most of her adult life she worked for the Service
Although Carson was always very interested in writing from a very young age she wrote many books, mostly about nature and how to help all other living beings on the Earth. Some books she wrote included, Under the Sea Wind, Food from the Sea, Food from Home Waters, The Sea Around Us, Silent Spring and many more. As you can see the books she wrote reflect her life long interest in the life of the seas, the seashores and nature. For all the books Carson wrote she received around 20 awards. This goes to show that she was a very good writer and committed to working hard. It paid off for Carson believing that she can do anything, because after writing Under the Sea, The Sea Around Us and The Edge of the Sea, these books all became best-sellers and the brought Rachel into the National Celebrity. The attention and money she earned allowed her to become a full time writer from 1952-1964.
During the process of finishing The Sense of Wonder, she died of breast cancer on April 14, 1964 in Silver Spring, Maryland. As you can see Rachel Carson was a great woman who accomplished many things throughout her life time with no limits.
